Election 2004 — Victory!

2004-1
We began that beautiful fall morning in the crisp darkness at 6:30 am before the polls opened. As poll watchers, we had to show our official badges so the precinct captain would let us enter. This is what it looked like after the sun came up.

2004-2
Here is one of four precincts we visited in the District of Columbia. Turnout was great at all of them. People were lined up and ready when the doors opened at 7:00 am. This particular precinct had a brisk curb-side business. The elderly or disabled who couldn’t stand in line were identified by waiting poll workers, paper ballots were brought out to them, and returned to be scanned into the ballot boxes. We watched it all and all was in order.

2004-3
We decided to stop for lunch at the Hay Adams Hotel, just across LaFayette Park from the White House. It seemed hard to believe the country was buzzing with the excitement of election day with workers planting tulips.

2004-4
However, General LaFayette is forever poised for action.

2004-5

2004-6
It was a truly spectacular autumn day in our nation’s capitol.

2004-7
Peter took a moment to talk to a fellow sitting vigil over the White House. He planned to stay there for 24 hours praying for God’s will to be done during the election. We believe our President prays for exactly the same thing.

2004-8
Another polling place we visited in the afternoon. Lines had not diminished.

2004-9
Then on to the evening when we attended a great party at the Leadership Institute.

2004-10
The whole world was watching… Fox News Channel!

2004-11
We had a great conversation with Bonny Stilwell and her well-dressed son, Bill Stilwell. We also thank Bill for his service to our country as an F-14 fighter pilot.

2004-12
We chatted with Morton Blackwell, Founder of the Leadership Institute and a major player in this election. Read more about him. We can personally attest to the fine quality of his training programs, having graduated two of them. After a long day, we stayed up late into the night. We awoke without a final resolution so we made our own announcement and declared a victory for President Bush at 9:20 am. Celebrations were in order!
